Keep Your Smile Healthy While We Keep You Comfortable

It’s understandable to be nervous about surgery. However, in the experienced hands of Dr. Pierce or Dr. Knight, they take the necessary steps to ensure your oral surgery is as comfortable as possible.  Here are the surgeries we perform:

  • Tooth Extractions – This is the most common type of oral surgery we perform. While we always try to preserve a patient’s natural tooth, sometimes it’s necessary to remove a tooth to prevent it from damaging other healthy teeth and gums. However, whenever possible, we do all we can to save it. That may mean placing a filling or performing root canal treatment.
  • Wisdom Teeth Removals – We can also perform some wisdom teeth removals. Depending on the nature of your case, we will either take care of it in-house or refer you to a trusted oral surgeon who will provide you the same excellent care you would receive from us.

No matter what procedure you need done, you won’t feel a thing thanks to our painless anesthetic, The Wand®. We also have oral sedation in pill form to make your procedure completely comfortable.

Drs. Pierce and Knight prefer to focus on the procedures they do best. That’s why we refer out other types of oral surgery, including bone grafts, sinus lifts, ridge augmentation, and gum grafts. That frees us up to perform excellent family dentistry, restorative dental care, and cosmetic dentistry treatments.

We’ll ensure you feel comfortable during Lenexa oral surgery from Pierce & Knight Family Dentistry. Call us today at 913-251-9683 to schedule your consultation or second opinion. You can also schedule online.

Common Questions About Oral Surgery

Is oral surgery covered by insurance?

Whether your oral surgery is covered by your dental insurance will depend on your policy and provider. You can rest assured that our team will work hard to make sure you get the maximum benefit from your plan. At the same time, we don’t want cost to prevent you from getting the care you need. We offer flexible payment options, which include a 12-month, no-interest financing option through CareCredit.

What foods can I eat after oral surgery?

After oral surgery, you will need time to recover. For a few days, you should stick to soft foods such as mashed potatoes, yogurt, and refried beans that don’t require chewing. Gradually, you can introduce foods like pasta and eggs that require minimal chewing. You will want to avoid spicy, hard, and crunchy foods and foods that require lots of chewing until you are back to normal.

Does oral surgery cause jaw pain?

Many people do feel soreness after oral surgery, but that fades as you recover. If anything, oral surgery is done to alleviate pain and long-term oral health problems. Our dental professionals will be happy to advise you on the best way to recover from your surgery so you can get back to feeling like yourself as soon as possible.
