Decided to become a dentist because my dad was a dentist. He started his practice in the 1970s.
I wanted to continue what he was doing in building a practice within the community. But I also love science, I love art, and dentistry really provides that intertwining of science and art. Be able to work with your hands and still serve the community, serve patients, and do something in the health care field. So, it really was kind of the perfect profession for me.
What really makes it a joy to be a dentist is seeing finished cases come alive in the patient’s mouth and being able to see their smile. At the end of the day, when you have a great case that’s turned out well and the patient, you see that appreciation, and you see the relief on their face when they know that they’ve accomplished something as well. ‘Cause sometimes it is a long process to get from point A to point B, but when you get to that final point and you see the smile on their face, I think that really creates some satisfaction for us as professionals there.
I did my undergraduate work down at Drury College down in Springfield, Missouri. And then I came up to Kansas City and did my four years of dental school at UMKC School of Dentistry.
Continued education is really important, I feel, for our practice. Both doctors in the office, myself and Dr. Knight, both strive to maximize the amount of CE that we get. So, what that does for me is it allows me to bring new ideas to the patient to solve problems. But it also rejuvenates me as a professional so that I can bring my best A game to each patient that I serve.
