Most of our patients know that they should visit us twice a year for a routine checkup. However, our Lenexa dental cleanings and exams go way beyond just a normal general dentistry visit. So, new patients that are gonna come in for a cleaning and exam are going to get to see the hygienist right off the bat. That's the first person they're gonna see. Following that, they're going to get to see either Dr. Knight or myself for an exam. So they're gonna leave the office knowing exactly what dental issues they may have and how we're gonna fix those for them with different options available for them there.
But you know, coming in on a regular basis to see one of our hygienists is so important because we can catch things and make things better for the patient, and fix small things before they turn into big things. Our hygienists are top notch. They've been with us for multiple years. They're very experienced, and I would put them up against any hygienist in this city.
- Keep your teeth clean and your mouth healthy
- Catch and treat oral problems early on before they can cause damage
- Prevent big smile problems and the need for more invasive treatment
- Give you confidence that your smile looks great

When you come in for a dental exam specifically, when you come in for a cleaning, we are going to check your gum health. Okay? We're going to check the foundation, the bone, the tissue that's surrounding the teeth so that we make sure that you have a good foundation for any restorative work that we need to do or for just having normal function, that we're going to make sure that that foundation, which is the gum tissue and the bone tissue that's surrounding those teeth, is nice and strong. Obviously, if you were going to build a building, you'd want to make sure you're building that building on a strong foundation. The same thing with dentistry. You want to make sure your teeth are in a good foundation, so we're always going to be checking, measuring those things, measuring the numbers that go around your teeth there that know exactly what your gum health is, and then we're also going to scan your mouth with a VELscope for oral cancer and check for oral cancer on a yearly basis for you.
One of our skilled registered hygienists will take any needed X-rays, examine your teeth and gums, perform periodontal charting, and log any other crucial information. Then they will clean and polish your teeth, making sure to reach all the nooks and crannies of your mouth that you might miss at home.
Next, you’ll meet with either Dr. Pierce or Dr. Knight for a 30-minute new patient consultation. This meeting will help them understand your oral health and diagnose any specific oral concerns you have. They will offer you treatment options and answer any questions you have about us or about your oral health. You’ll have all the information you need to make wise choices about your dental care.
To expedite your first exam and cleaning, we ask that you download and complete your new patient forms before your appointment. This will allow you to spend as much time as possible with our team and less time doing paperwork.
