I decided to become a dentist because I wanted to help people. And in all honesty, I became a dentist because of the flexibility that it offers. I can dedicate my time solely to my patients when I’m here at the practice, but then when I go home, I have the ability to dedicate myself to my family, so that really gives me the best of both worlds.
I think the most rewarding part of being a dentist is when I can complete treatment for a patient who has come in with a lot of dental fear or anxiety, and we’ve relieved that anxiety in the process of completing treatment, and they can leave with a beautiful, healthy smile. That’s the most rewarding part of my job.
I went to the University of Kansas for my undergraduate, and then I attended UMKC School of Dentistry for my dental training. Continuing education is so important. There are so many new technologies and innovations in dentistry that are happening all the time, so staying up on the continuing education is very important. We love to take our staff with us when we go to continuing education courses. There’s, of course, a ton of online training that we can do.
I think our patients are wowed when they walk in our office and they see the technology that we have to offer, and the fact that we have that in our hands, we’re capable of using that technology because we’ve attended continuing education they can see right off the top, right off the bat that they’re in good hands, they’re confident in the treatment they’re going to receive.
